Today we’re going to tackle a subject that is about as warmed over as the Salisbury steaks that sit under the heat lamp at a junior high school cafeteria: terrible Christmas songs. By definition, every Christmas song is a terrible Christmas song, but these are the true bottom of the barrel. To put it another way, when “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” – the Less than Jake version, by the way – or Gary Glitter’s “Another Rock and Roll Christmas” don’t even make the list, you know that nothing good is in store for you in the near future. On the plus side, all of you reading this have the option of not clicking on any of these links. I had to listen to all of this (and then some). By the way, this one is dedicated to all the poor and suffering retail workers of the world. Without their valiant sacrifice and desperate need for employment, this season just wouldn’t be the same. So grab your eggnog and let’s dive in head first!

10. 12 Days of Christmas – by Anybody [but especially your kid’s 4th grade class for the annual elementary school Holiday Concert] (Watch it)

This is the single longest song that has ever been written in the history of songs. Oh sure, there are songs that take more minutes of time to listen to, but they are nowhere near as repetitive. During the entire six hour process that it takes to hear this song, you will be wishing for naught by the sweet embrace of death. The worst part is that you will never choose to listen to this; it will be foisted upon you in some place from where you cannot escape. Forever trapped.

Since I didn’t give you guys a certain artist for this piece, I’ll present you with a bonus of terrible: “Redneck 12 Days of Christmas” by Jeff Foxworthy.

9. Oi to the World – No Doubt

Remember back when No Doubt kind of counted as ska?

Or rather, remember ska?

There was a weird time in the mid to late 90s where pop-punk and white-boy reggae met up with each other, those band geeks who played horns were all of a sudden in bands, and then as quickly as they appeared, they went away. The people who listened to this music with a fervent devotion can now be spotted in their natural habitat: a dive bar with PBR on tap. They will be mustachioed or bearded (even the women, somehow), wearing a tight flannel shirt, extremely thin or incredibly obese (never in the middle), and sitting on a fixed gear bike. If you bring up their past, they will publically disavow ever once owning a Reel Big Fish or Mustard Plug album and then talk about Animal Collective. But you’ll know the truth.

Anyway, this song is originally by the Vandals, is about a fight between a racist skinhead and an Indian immigrant in England who has an Oi! band and actually ends up saving the racist skinhead, so yeah there’s that. Plus, this song serves as a reminder that Mrs. Gavin Rossdale used to be in a band before she started singing about “hollaback girls,” whatever that is.

8. Do They Know it’s Christmas? – Band Aid

Like the more-than-slightly-off second cousin of “We are the World,” this song was designed to get people together to help Africa. Except this one was both racist and came before “We are the World.” My only hope is that Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson saw “Do they Know” and were like, “oh, hell no!” And then they got Springsteen in there to show Bono how it’s DONE, son. Also, the guy who is famous for singing “Day-O” was involved somehow, because why not?

Back to “Do They Know.” This song is just wrong on so many levels. It’s cheesy as hell and if Spandau Ballet and Wham! are the best they could get, that should have said something to the producers.

7. Wonderful Christmastime – Paul McCartney

In this song, Sir Paul McCartney makes his most compelling argument for why he should have hung it up once The Beatles were over.

McCartney is nearly universally acknowledged to be one of the greatest songwriters in the history of popular music and a song that sounds like a synthesizer just ate a huge meal at Taco Bell is the best that he could come up with for a Christmas song? I think he knew that by sheer virtue of being a not-dead member The Beatles and a song with Christmas in the title, he’d have a hit and another pile of money on which to sleep so he just cranked this one out before lunch and took off.

6. I am Santa Claus – Bob Rivers

Like the unwanted second cousin of “Weird” Al Yankovic [why does it feel like I used this analogy earlier?], Bob Rivers has been crapping out parody versions of songs for years. This is just one of the many, many, many Christmas themed ones. If you ever wanted to know what Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” sounded like with lyrics about being Santa, then this song pretty much hits the nail square on the head. If you wanted to listen to a good song, you probably aren’t in the market for “Iron Man” with lyrics about Santa in the first place. When I was a kid, I loved this song. Little kids are stupid.

5. Condoms for Christmas – Milo Bobbins (Listen to it)

This is one of those songs that could have only come from the era when sex would kill you if you had it, aka the 1990s.

Yes, there was a time when AIDS was everywhere, airborne, and incurable. I was in junior high and high school during this time. I am quite frankly, lucky to be alive. If it wasn’t for musicians like TLC and Milo Bobbins telling all of us the importance of proper condom use, the human race would all be dead and replaced by mole people by now.

4. Jingle Bells – Barking Dogs

Every year your local radio station will play this as you get up for work at 6:45 AM on their morning “drivetime zoo crew” show and talk about how funny this is. It wasn’t funny the first time and it’s still not funny the one hundred, eighty-second time. Just stop it! This is how Berkowitz went off the edge, I swear! This song is bad enough that if I even see a dog within 15 minutes of hearing this abomination, there is a chance I will get down on my knees and start barking in his face, only punctuating my psychotic barking episode with screaming bursts of “HOW DO YOU LIKE IT, HUH?”

3. Christmas Don’t Be Late (Remix) – Alvin and the Chipmunks

Not content to ruin our collective childhoods by putting together this horrid atrocity of cinematic dreck on the silver screen, the producers of this “film” decided they needed to sully our view of the once lovable Chipmunks a little more by rerecording the classic, “Christmas Don’t Be Late.” Let’s not kid ourselves here, “Christmas Don’t Be Late” is pretty terrible to begin with, but combining that with the new Chipmunks is enough to propel this into a heretofore unknown stratosphere of awful.

2.Please Daddy, Don’t Get Drunk this Christmas – John Denver (Watch it)

Good lord, how depressing can we get? Written from the point of view of a seven-year-old, who is now worrying about what will happen this Christmas because of prior events, “Please Daddy” is arguably one of the most depressing songs ever written. Or at least it would be if it wasn’t sung by John Denver, who makes everything sound much happier than it should.

But seriously, I know the first thing that I want to hear when it comes to Christmas music is a song about an abusive alcoholic father, a broken-down mother, and a fearful child. Nothing really says Christmas to me like that ensemble cast.

1. Christmas Shoes – New Song

NO! I REFUSE TO LISTEN TO THIS! I WOULD RATHER LISTEN TO AN ENTIRE NICKELBACK ALBUM THEN HEAR THIS ONE TIME! NO!

It’s a song about how Jesus cares about what’s on mom’s feet when she’s dead or something. It doesn’t matter. It’s awful and overwrought and you might as well just listen to it for yourself.

This article was written as a Christmas present to you by Joe Vampire, who listened to these songs so you don’t have to. He works for a company that sells Halloween costumes, including music, movie, and superhero.

1. Cunninlynguists-Oneirology
This is one album that I listen to all the way through every single day. Cunninlynguists are definitely one of my favorite hip hop artists of all time. Their lyrics are clever, witty and thought provoking. The beats are out of this world. This group is so incredibly talented, it sucks they don’t have a larger fanbase because I would love hearing them on the radio.

Oneirology is such an incredible album. Oneirology is the study of dreams. This album definitely makes you feel as if you are in a dream. Each song leads into the next like it is one big dream. There are so many great songs on this album. If you are a fan of hip hop, then you definitely have to give these guys a try. You definitely won’t be disappointed.

Best songs:

1. Hard as they come

2. Get Ignorant

3. Enemies with benefits

2. Kno (from Cunninlynguists)- Death is Silent

If you enjoyed Cunninlynguists, then you will absolutely love this album. Kno has made an instant classic with this one. I actually like this album better than Oneirology. Once again, I listen to this album every day. The great thing about these two artists is that the beats count just as much as the lyrics do. They take creativity to a whole new level and they really make it work. Another thing you will realize is that the songs are great by themselves, but become much better when you listen to them all at once.

Kno creates a story with this album. The album starts off really low and sad as if someone had literally just died. He hits on a lot of things related to death. The album slowly picks up throughout and eventually gets more up tempo and a huge mood change. It takes you through the journey of feelings when you lose someone you care about. You get the feeling of finally getting over it. It is crazy, you just have to listen to understand.

Best songs:

1. La Petite Mort (Come Die with Me)

2. Rhythm of the Rain

3. Spread Your Wings

3. Apathy-Honkey Kong

Apathy definitely caught my ear immediately. His lyrics are more gangster than the above, but doesn’t mean he isn’t as clever. His flow is nuts and you’ll find that a lot of his instrumentals will get stuck in your head for some time. He has a lot of songs featuring some great artists. These artists fit right into the songs, and just improve the quality of each song altogether.

This is a good album that I listen to a few times a week. I’m surprised Apathy isn’t more popular because he has music that sounds a lot like mainstream. This is definitely an artist that needs more exposure. I listen to this album while I am working on writing blogs, or programming at work. I find my head bobbing to it everytime.

Best Songs:

1. Honkey Kong

2. The Recipe

3. Albino Gorillas [bonus track]

4. Action Bronson- Dr. Lector

Action Bronson is straight up hilarious. He works as a very respected chef in New York. He often raps about food, and you’ll see that throughout this album. He has decent lyrics and beats on this album. His flow isn’t bad either. Most of the album is just Action Bronson and it doesn’t have many songs that feature other artists.

Honestly, every time I listen to this album I get a good laugh. I have to be in the right mood to listen to this album, but I still listen fairly often. This album doesn’t need to be listened to in any particular order.

Best Songs:

1. Bag of Money

2. Suede

3. Get Off My P.P.

5. Apollo Brown-The Reset

I can honestly say that there isn’t a weak song on this album. The first time you listen to it, you may not like it. If you really listen to the words, you get the most out of this album. You won’t find Apollo bragging about his women, cars and money like most rappers. He raps about some great topics, and it really is hard to pick a top 3.

Apollo Brown really delivers on The Reset. Please realize this list is in no particular order! Just because I have Apollo Brown at 5 doesn’t mean you should sleep on him! I’m telling you, this album is out of this world. The beats are very laid back and chill, and the lyrics are phenomenal.

He has an artist with him in every song, giving the album good variety. Apollo came to play on this one. Good work Apollo Brown.

Best songs:

1. Hungry

2. Lower the Boom

3. Beauty of a Day

In modern times whatever happens in Vegas stays on Facebook, but don’t let that put you off spending some time in the original City of Sin.

These ten fun facts give you something to think about while booking your flights to Vegas.

1. Gambling Was Illegal
In 1910, Nevada reluctantly outlawed gambling; the law was so strict, you weren’t even allowed to toss a coin. Thankfully in 1931 the Nevada state legislature legalised gambling.

2. Buying a Round is Still Illegal
One quirky law still enforced in Nevada is that it’s illegal to buy drinks for more than four people at the same time.

3. Howard Hughes Refused to Leave
After billionaire Howard Hughes stayed at the Desert Inn for two years, staff had enough of his quirky ways and asked him politely to leave. Incensed, Hughes bought the hotel and continued to live there for years.

4. The Desert Inn Still Has Hughes’ Ice Cream in Their Freezer
Howard Hughes ordered 750 litres of Banana Ripple ice cream during his stay at the Desert Inn, but on arrival he decided he no longer liked it. Rumour has it there’s still some left in the freezer.

5. Paul Anka Sang Whilst Underage
Legendary singer Paul Anka was underage when he first sang in Vegas; to gain entry to a Vegas casino you have to be over 21, and Anka was only 18.

6. It’s Illegal to Bring a Gun Into The County
That may not be strictly true, but in order to bring a firearm into Clark County it must be registered with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. But to register your gun, you have to bring it to the station; which is in Clark County.

7. In 1931 Las Vegas Was The Divorce Capital of America
Ironic, considering the reputation Las Vegas now has for marriage (over 150 weddings per day).

8. Camels Were Used as Pack Animals
Between 1856 and 1870 the US military used camels in lieu of horses and mules due to their ability to bear more burden.

9. Hotels and Casinos Pump in Scents
It’s well known that the casinos of Las Vegas pump oxygen in to keep gamblers awake, but they also pump in perfumed scents such as coconut and perfume.

10. Unlucky Number Four
In Chinese culture the number four is considered unlucky; as Chinese high rollers are important to Vegas, some hotels have begun omitting the number 4 from floor plans.

About the author: James writes for Skyscanner.net, who compare flights to, among other places Vegas, Nevada. Despite a love for both Vegas and icecream, he’s never gone in search of Howard Hughes’s Banana Ripple Icecream.

No, a plane did not crash into the side of this hill. This is actually someones house. The inside is pretty awesome considering it was stripped and lined 360 degrees in wood. Living in a plane could be kind of fun.

Cruise ship meets land? This contemporary house can be found in Orinda, Californi. It’s called the “saxophone house” but should be relabeled, “saxophone of the seas.”

Awesome house, but not sure many friends would be visiting.

You might want to think twice before disrobing in this home. There are quite a few windows.

Did the Jetson’s land in a trailer park? Perhaps the owners of this home wanted an update so they decided to build over their existing home.

This is a pretty cool modern home, but who wants to hang out on a slanted porch? You can forget outdoor happy hour.

The spaceship house can be found in Chattanooga Tennessee. No need for a garage I suppose. Unfortunately, this house does not levitate.

Wait..so there really is an old woman who lives in a shoe?

This post might piss some people off considering college graduates are struggling to find a job at McDonalds. The following is a list of the some of the worlds coolest jobs. Odds of landing one though are extremely low though.

Waterslide Tester

Waterslide testing is a paid traveling position. You get to go around the world testing waterslides for speed, height, water quality, and safety. If you’re thinking about applying for a job in quality control- you might want to consider this option.

Wine Taster and Blogger

If you’re looking for a job that’s a little less thrilling, you can always get drunk and blog about what your tasting. Hardy Wallace landed a 6-month contract with Murphy-Goode Winery making $10,000/month. Job duties: drink wine and update Facebook and Twitter. Most people do that on a weekly basis as is. It would be great to make 10 grand off of it.

Island Caretaker

I’m not sure it could get better than this. If chosen, island caretakers are typically hired to stay on an island to blog about the area for promotional purposes. It pretty much sounds like you wake up, drink, snorkel, and then write about the fish you saw.

Professional Whistler

Henry Brady is professional whistler. He told Fox News, “A whistler is an artist just like an actor or musician. My profession has taken me across the world and allowed me to touch people’s hearts.”

Furniture Tester

Alright, it’s not as easy as it sounds. You have to sit, recline, lay down, and relax. I would imaging that you have to give feedback as well. What kind of experience do you need to apply for this job? Maybe write down, “I like to sit on a couch and watch TV.”

Bike Rider for Google Maps

Since the “Google Mobile” can’t make it down every ally or to certain historic sites, they’ve come up with a bicycle contraption. For this job- you simply ride the bike around while 9 cameras take a 360 degree shot of the area.

It has always been a race to see who can build the tallest and fastest roller coaster. It isn’t always height that makes a ride terrifying though. Below is a list of some of the most thrilling roller coasters from across the world.

“The Intimidator,” Kings Dominion- Virginia

This is your classic high speed coaster with a 305 foot drop reaching speeds of 92mph. Aside from its insane vertical drop, the seats are tiny and open. I would image this ride has pretty strict weight restrictions. Sorry 80% of America.

“Kingda Ka,” Six Flags Great Adventure, New Jersey

The Kingda Ka is a knockoff mega coaster based off the slightly less tall, Dragster (Cedar Point, Ohio.) This coaster is the tallest roller coaster in the world. The Kingda Ka hydraulically launches you at 128 mph towards a 456 vertical hill and drop. The machine looks intense (and it is)- but the ride is so fast and short that many report they “had no idea what just happened.”

“Son of Beast,” Kings Island, Ohio

This coaster looks like a son of a beast. How many trees did it take to build this structure? Son of Beast is the tallest wooden roller coaster. It once featured a vertical loop which was later removed after an accident. Don’t worry- nobody was killed. The park claims the loop had nothing to do with it, rather it was a bump in the track.

“Montu,” Busch Gardens, Florida

The Montu is an inverted, Egyptian themed roller coaster. It was once the worlds tallest and fasted inverted roller coaster. Luckily, it still holds the record for the most inversions (for an inverted coaster.) The Montu features 7 loops with numerous dips, tunnels, and thrills along the way.

“Hulk,” Islands of Adventure, Florida

The Hulk a non-traditional coaster that is known for it’s eye catching infrastructure. Instead of the typical chain pull to the top, the Hulk launches you up the hill. This coaster features numerous inversions and many zero-G force experiences.

“Colossus,” Thorpe Park, England

Colossus is often said to be one of the “craziest” roller coasters in the world. With that said, this ride holds the record for having the most inversions. They must have to hose this baby down on an hourly basis.

“Alpengeist,” Busch Gardens, Virginia

The Alpengeist is the tallest and fastest inverted roller coaster. It features a 170 ft drop with an initial 106 ft vertical loop, followed by 5 more loops. You better hope a bird isn’t in the way of your legs…or face.

“Mindbender,” Galaxyland, Canada

The scariest rides are usually the ones where you don’t know what’s coming. Is the track about to throw you in loop or drop 100 ft? The Mindbender is the tallest indoor roller coaster and could easily make anyone wet their pants. It looks crazy enough with the lights on.

“Steel Dragon 2000,” Nagashima Spa Land, Japan

The Steel Dragon is the longest roller coaster in the world with 8,133 ft in track length. Be sure you’re ready for this ride before you get on. After the the 300 ft drop, going 95 mph- you still have 1.5 miles left.

“X Squared,” Six Flags Magic Mountain, California

X Squared is a unique roller coaster because the seats can rotate forward or backward 360 degrees which is controlled by the rider. This is Magic Mountains signature ride with wait times often exceeding 2 hours.
