From the dawn of time, human beings have always come together to play games. All you need are rules, teams, possibly a ball or puck, and some imagination. Thankfully, for those of us who grow tired of conventional sports, there are nutty people who keep coming up with new ones. What the following “sports” lack in common sense they make up for in complete disregard for personal safety, coordination, or human dignity.<\/p>\n

1. Cheese Rolling<\/strong>
\nYes, cheese rolling. In the UK, scores of people gather together on the beautiful high plains of the countryside. They then roll a wheel of cheese down that hill and run after it at full speed. I know what you’re wondering. Yes, it’s fun to watch. Yes, people get hurt. And no, there aren’t any Cheese Rolling scholarships available for college. Check it out.<\/p>\n

2. Toilet Racing<\/strong>
\nWant to feel the thrill of victory on the racetrack, but never made it into NASCAR? Try putting wheels on a toilet and racing it against your friends. At least that’s what these guys did. Weird thing is, there are videos of people doing this all over the internet. Is this the next trend after planking? This is definitely an American thing.<\/p>\n

\n3. Wife Carrying<\/strong>
\nOkay, so you want to feel the thrill of victory but don’t have the mechanical know how to trip out your toilet? Just pick up your wife. Wife Carrying is a sport that’s been going on for years. Husbands race with their wives over their shoulders and over their heads. Winners get… the woman’s weight in beer! Seriously. The sport originated in Finland but has since spread to the rest of Europe and even North America. Check out the video below.<\/p>\n

4. Bossabal<\/strong>
\nIf you’d like to challenge yourself to something a little more athletically challenging, then you may want to try this sport. It is a wild mix of… get this… soccer, volleyball, and gymnastics. It’s set up like a volleyball court, but it’s played on a trampoline\/moon walker unit, and the players use their feet as well as their hands. This looks like super fun! It originated in Belgium, and is soon to become available in the states. It looks like fun!<\/p>\n

5. Extreme Ironing<\/strong>
\nFirst toilets, now irons. People just… iron in the context of extreme environments. Like out on a boat or on a mountain. Like this video below of someone ironing… while skydiving. Yes, skydiving. It looks like fun, but it begs the question. Isn’t ironing hard enough for most guys without making them do it while falling out of a plane?<\/p>\n
